REDMOND, Wash., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Cybersex sites are becoming a regular destination for many young, adult women according to a recent survey conducted on MSNBC on the Internet (www.msnbc.com) by Dr. Alvin Cooper, clinical director of the San Jose Marital Services and Sexuality Centre in San Jose, California.
The survey, conducted during March and April on MSNBC on the Internet, received responses from over 9,000 users and found that younger women are turning to cybersex sites in larger-than-expected numbers. More than half of the women responding (59%) were ages 18-34 and regular visitors to cybersex sites.
Dr. Cooper has coined a phrase for young women's newfound sexuality, ``It's the 'triple A' of the Internet, access, affordability and anonymity, that allows them to be more comfortable experimenting with their sexuality online than almost anywhere else.''
Some of the other findings are as follows: -- Almost one in five people go to cybersex sites while at work. -- When visiting cybersex sites, many people lie about their age and race, but not their sex. -- Almost three out of four respondents indicated keeping secrets from others about how much time they spent online for sexual pursuits. The study also found that while 8% of the respondents suffer from some form of sexual compulsivity, as compared with about 5% of the general population, those people who visit cybersex sites do so more for recreation than arousal.
``People didn't report that the sites really aroused them, just that they enjoyed them,'' said Dr. Cooper.
